Creating and Managing Folders on Telegram

Telegram is on the rise these days. It’s not the most frequently used messenger app on the scene yet, but chances are it will soon become one. The tool’s functionality appeals to its users greatly. With this immense popularity come piles of must-organize data across your Telegram chats, channels, and bot conversations.

There’s an option of pinning your favorite convos to keep tabs on them, but it’s not the handiest ever. Luckily, the service lets you create discussion folders to categorize your chats and thus ‘clean up’ all the aforementioned mess. In this post, we’ll let you in on how to set up, delete, and edit Telegram folders for the purpose of organizing your chats and making the service a lot more user-friendly. Stay tuned.

The Steps You Need to Take

You’re free to sort out the Telegram folder creation either on mobile or desktop. The procedure is almost the same across all devices. Irrespective of the device you’ll choose, the first step will be launching the Settings menu. If you stick with Android or desktop, hit the top-left hamburger menu of the messaging app and open Settings in the drop-down menu. If you’re an iPhone or iPad user, tap Settings at the bottom. After that, select Folders/Chat Folders to enable Telegram’s chat folder organization functionality. If you have any folders, that’s where they’ll show up.

As you access Folders, you’ll get to set up discussion channels. The process is similar to how you create files on your PC’s desktop. Get the procedure going by tapping ‘Create New Folder’. After that, you’ll be given three choices. First: the possibility of naming your chat folder. Second: adding discussion channels. And third: removing them. For instance, if you intend on creating a cryptocurrency-only-related chat folder, name it respectively and add all the relevant users or groups to the category based on its main topic.

Adding Chats to the Folder

Proceed by setting the Included Chats. Hit Add Chats below this option and a selection of Chat Types will show up. This will feature the following dynamic groups:

  • Contacts;

  • Non-Contacts;

  • Groups;

  • Channels;

  • Bots.

Scroll down to find a list of Chats, comprising all your active conversations. In case some of them are already in a folder, you’ll find their names there. Tick as many as you wish to add to the folder. Mixing and matching certain chats and chat types is welcome.

Last but not least, don’t forget to aptly name your chat folder to be able to instantly figure out what it’s about. The name of the folder should consist of up to twelve characters with spaces, so take that into consideration when preparing to unleash your creativity. When you’re through, tap ‘Done’. You’ll be able to monitor the result by hitting Included Chats.

In case you decide to remove certain Telegram chats from a folder, access the needed folder and tap ‘Excluded Chats’. Proceed by tapping on channel profiles, which will result in removing the chosen chats from the chat folder. Simple as that.

Conclusion: Manage Your Chat Folders Like a Pro

You’ll find all the chat folders in the tab form on the Telegram home page. Switching between those tabs to access your folders is a breeze. As an added bonus, you’re free to make the most of reordering, editing, or deleting folder tabs from that area.

Feel like changing the order of your chat folders? Tap and hold any of them and select Reorder from the appearing menu. Proceed by tapping and holding the chat folder and then moving it to its left or right. When you’re through, hit ‘Done’ for the changes to successfully save.

Want to edit any of your chat folders? Tap and hold the corresponding tab, then hit Edit to get the modifications started. You’ll then be taken to the editing page, where you’ll engage in renaming the folder, adding or removing chats from it, as well deleting the folder altogether. If you have anything to add on the topic, speak up in the comments below.
