Ads in Virtual Reality: Facebook Begins Testing

It seems that advertising is about to reach an entirely new level. On Wednesday, Facebook made an announcement that they will test putting ads in virtual reality games on Oculus. Advertisements won’t be added everywhere and they will first be included in the shooter from Resolution Games called Blaston. It’s more than likely that there will be integration with Oculus Studio games in the near future.

It was stated in the blog post that the process is in its early stages and developers want to get feedback from the community.

When it comes to privacy, this is another question that has been discussed by the company. According to Facebook, they will not be using images from the Oculus camera to show targeted ads to users. Also, they don’t plan to use any movement data for the same purpose.

It’s obvious that Facebook has been investing in developing the virtual reality sphere for a while now and they are all ready to start monetizing it. Hopefully, this won’t affect the privacy or gaming experience too much for players.
