TikTok to Trust Oracle with Its US User Data

One of the greatest concerns about TikTok operating in the USA was its alleged readiness to share user data with Chinese authorities on demand. To prevent these accusations, the owners of TikTok start partnering with Oracle. Now Oracle may take care of American users, storing their data in its own local data centers.

TikTok is the only Chinese social media that gained worldwide popularity. There are other Chinese services in the global Top 10, but they mostly address the population of China. Bytedance, with its breakthrough, attracted almost as much suspicion from authorities as it did love from users. Not so long ago, TikTok was almost banned in the US, and is still banned in the U.S. Army and Navy (though even recruiters still use it to reach potential recruits).

Bytedance was ready for incredible steps to remain on the American market. It even considered partly selling the app to Oracle, though this didn’t happen. That’s probably when the two companies got in touch as they remain today. Though the deal about data storage isn’t signed yet, it seems highly probable.

Recently, TikTok has become more than just a form of digital entertainment. Its efforts are obviously aimed at turning TikTok into a major e-commerce platform. It offers lots of marketing research tools, insights, and new forms of promotion to help new talents easily monetize their popularity. Given how much more about money and commerce it gets, storing its data in America becomes more crucial. So, while so far Oracle’s involvement is only discussed, the very possibility of it makes TikTok look more legit in the eyes of an American user.

Have you ever had any suspicions about TikTok, given its Chinese origins? Will this deal make you worry less about your personal data? Tell us what you think about it in the comments if you will!
