One of the greatest things about music streaming is the possibility to discover new artists you might like. YouTube Music improves this side of streaming by introducing new algorithms. In addition, it adds some family values into its approach to music and enables its Wear OS app to create a truly random playlist from downloaded tracks.
The change in the algorithm pursues increasing diversity in the radio offerings. Now, the radio you create from one track will play less tracks by artists familiar to you and more from those you haven’t included into your selections. This way, you will be bombed with new music and sure to like some of it. Don’t neglect the possibility to mark tracks as favorites to improve the experience even further.
Another update for those listening to the music from their phones is improved controls from Wear OS. Now, you can easier play the music from smartwatches powered by Google. Now you can switch your playback to shuffle mode and enjoy a truly random playlist that includes all the tracks downloaded to your wearable. The decision to only include local tracks is reasonable, given the limitations of this device type.
Finally, YouTube Music makes listening a family experience. The newly introduced Family Shelf that works for family subscribers creates a mixed playlist designed to satisfy all the members with subscriptions. It includes the main personalized (or rather multi-personalized) Family Mix as well as other playlists generated according to family members’ tastes.
Are you already a YouTube Music subscriber? If you have subscribed your family members, how do their tastes interfere with yours? Do you often listen to the music together? And will you like a completely random playlist with your smartwatch as the only device you’re carrying? Tell us what you think about it in the comments!
